Shire appoints new finance chief

Shire Pharmaceuticals has appointed Graham Hetherington as its new chief financial officer (CFO), it has been announced.

The vacancy on Shire’s board has been opened up as a result of former CFO Angus Russell’s step up to chief executive officer as of June 28th.

Having previously worked as a CFO for the Allied Domecq and Bacardi drinks companies, Mr Hetherington is also to become Shire Pharmaceutical’s executive board director when he joins the company on July 1st.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr Russell said: “Graham brings to Shire a track record of delivering good financial results combined with extensive strategy, merger and acquisitions and corporate development expertise in the rapidly changing food and drink industry.”

Earlier this year, Shire announced the appointment of former Harvard Medical School professor Michael Rosenblatt as a non-executive director on its board.

The company is based in the UK, specialises in biopharmaceuticals and generated revenues in excess of £1,200 million over the course of last year.
