Shire chosen as pharma company of the year by Scrip
Shire has been selected as the pharmaceutical company of the year at the 12th annual Scrip Awards.
The editorial team of the Scrip news and analytics service chose Shire for the accolade after analysing a number of metrics, including financial performance, strategic advances, progress in emerging markets and advances in the drug pipeline.
In a statement, Scrip noted how impressed it was with Shire's performance since the abandonment of its merger with AbbVie in October 2014, citing its consistent growth, increased research and development spending, and leadership in the field of rare diseases following its subsequent merger with Baxalta.
Kim Stratton, head of Shire's international commercial operations, was on hand to accept the prize on behalf of the company at a recent awards dinner in London.
Flemming Ornskov, chief executive officer of Shire, said: "We welcome this important recognition of our continued growth and our deep and enduring commitment to serving patients and families across the globe that are affected by rare diseases and highly specialised conditions."
Shire employs more than 22,000 people worldwide and is now the leading global biotechnology company focused on rare diseases and highly specialised conditions, thanks to its combination with Baxalta.
