Shire receives permission for new manufacturing site in Ireland

Shire has received formal planning permission to create a new state-of-the-art biologics manufacturing facility in Ireland.

The 120-acre site at Piercetown, County Meath will utilise advanced bioprocessing techniques and flexible production strategies to enable it to supply both clinical and commercial-scale products, bolstering the company's manufacturing pipeline.

Approximately 400 highly-skilled full-time jobs in the areas of research and development, operations, technical work, engineering and construction will be created following the completion of the facility. Recruitment for these roles has already commenced and will continue into next year.

Tim Kelly, senior vice-president of biologics operations at Shire, said: "This expansion of our manufacturing capability will help us to support even more patients with our innovative rare disease products and pipeline."
