Shire to expand footprint and presence in San Diego

18th June 2012

Shire will be bolstering the operations of its regenerative medicine business Advanced BioHealing via a new expansion in San Diego.

The company has agreed a deal with BioMed Realty Trust that will allow it to further expand its operational footprint and presence in San Diego over the next few years, including the creation of a new campus in Sorrento Mesa.

Phase I of the site development will create more than 150,000 sq ft of additional space, housing Advanced BioHealing's manufacturing and support operations, its commercial functions and its corporate and administrative capabilities.

The work will help the company meet growing global demand for Advanced BioHealing's lead product Dermagraft, while also providing space to manufacture new regenerative medicine products.

Kevin Rakin, Shire's regenerative medicine president, said: "This new campus will give us the flexibility and increased capacity we need to develop and manufacture new regenerative medicine therapies and build our foundation for continued growth in this exciting field."

Earlier this year, the company purchased key regenerative medicines products and technology from Pervasis Therapeutics, including the vascular repair system Vascugel, which is seen as a complementary fit with Dermagraft.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801386782-ADNFCR
