Siemens adds VersaCell/Dimension connectivity options

Siemens has expanded the functionality of its intelligent sample management solution VersaCell by making it compatible with the Dimension EXL 200 integrated chemistry system.

The newly-released Dimension device, which is optimised for low-volume clinical laboratories, is the latest Siemens product to offer VersaCell compatibility, following the Advia Chemistry, Advia Centaur and Immulite product families.

It allows users to connect up to two standalone instruments in a variety of configurations, making it possible to create an automated routing system that enables the sorting and prioritisation of samples for use in consolidated chemistry or immunoassay testing.

Dave Hickey, chief executive officer for the chemistry, immunoassay, automation and diagnostics IT business unit at Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, said: "We know from talking to our customers that labs are continually looking for ways to do more with less, maximise throughput and deliver critical results back to clinicians on time."

Siemens launched Dimension EXL 200 last month, allowing labs to conduct tests related to therapeutic drug monitoring, protein analysis and other functions.
