Siemens launches automated FFPE tissue sample preparation system

17th October 2011

Siemens Healthcare has announced the introduction of a new formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sample preparation system that offers fully automated operability.

The Siemens Tissue Preparation Solution is the first product of its kind to transform the cumbersome manual process of extracting nucleic acids from FFPE samples into a walk-away standardised procedure.

This allows for the creation of high-quality samples in a way that eliminates errors and contamination risks, while saving time for users and offering various productivity benefits.

Moreover, it also helps to reduce laboratory staff's exposure to xylene, a chemical that is most used for deparaffinisation of the sample but can be hazardous to health.

Christoph Gauer, chief executive officer of molecular and microbiology business segment at Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, said: "Molecular testing has clearly emerged as routine testing, which is why Siemens continues to address the growing demand for advanced molecular diagnostics technology."

Earlier this month, the company announced the launch of the RAPIDPoint 500 Blood Gas System, a new device for use in point-of-care testing.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800760806-ADNFCR
