Siemens to provide MRI technology for Cardiff University brain research centre

Siemens has announced that it will be providing a number of high-end magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems for use at Cardiff University's new brain research imaging centre.

The Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) is being developed with a 44 million pound budget and is intended to be one of the top brain imaging facilities in Europe when it opens.

Four new Siemens MRI systems will be installed into the facility in early 2016, including a Magnetom 7T, a Magnetom Connectom 3T Scanner with 300mT/m Gradients, and two Magnetom Prisma systems.

This will be the first UK installation of the Connectom 3T and only the second in the world, with the cutting-edge technology to deliver new insights into neurological conditions such as dementia, schizophrenia and multiple sclerosis.

This comes after it was announced last week that Haywood Hospital has become the first site in the UK to implement an Ysio Max digital radiography system from Siemens.
