Sigma-Aldrich launches Sigma CRISPRs for gene editing
Sigma-Aldrich has announced the launch of its high-fidelity Sigma CRISPR paired nickases, a novel patent-pending gene editing tool.
This high-fidelity technology has been designed to reduce unintended off-target gene modifications and represents a robust, reliable and precise tool to interrogate and modify plant, animal and human biology for the research community.
Genome editing with CRISPR RNA-guided nucleases is a commonly-used technique at present, thanks to the relatively simplistic design process and the ability to efficiently modify or add genes in multiple species.
These new products are intended for easy and inexpensive deployment in academic, agricultural, pharmaceutical, human health and other applications.
Shaf Yousaf, vice-president for technology and business development at Sigma-Aldrich, said: "Our siRNA and shRNAs are widely used for gene knockdown studies and our CompoZr Zinc Finger Nucleases for precise genomic editing. Now, our high-fidelity CRISPRs are making precise genetic manipulation available for a wider range of applications."
This comes after the company was recently included in a list of the world's 100 best corporate citizens, compiled by Corporate Responsibility Magazine.
