Sigma-Aldrich named in Newsweek’s 2015 Green Rankings

Sigma-Aldrich has been recognised as one of the most environmentally-friendly US-based companies in a report by Newsweek.

The publication's 2015 Green Rankings, which recognised worldwide as a leading assessment of corporate environmental performance, saw the company maintain its number five ranking among the US 500 in its fourth appearance on the list.

This placed the life science company in the top one percent for environmental performance according to eight key metrics, including energy, water and waste usage, as well as corporate reputation.

For example, it saw a reduction in its absolute electricity usage for the second consecutive year in 2014, as well as a significant reduction in its absolute carbon footprint.

Rakesh Sachdev, president and chief executive officer of Sigma-Aldrich, said: "We are honoured to be recognised by Newsweek. At Sigma-Aldrich, we seek to ensure sustainability in all facets of our business."

The company is currently in the process of being acquired by Merck KGaA, a deal that was approved by the European Commission earlier this week.
