Sigma-Aldrich one of ‘100 most sustainable firms in the world’

29th January 2015

Sigma-Aldrich Corporation has been added to the '2015 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World (Global 100) Index', recognising the efforts the firm has made to become eco-friendly.

Announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the company is one of only 20 US businesses to receive this distinction.

"We are a company that believes every small change makes a big difference: much like the heart of our work, which is to produce chemicals, biochemicals and other products that are often the building blocks of something bigger," said Sigma-Aldrich president and chief executive Rakesh Sachdev.

He added that as the firm has been behind the inception of so many scientific discoveries, it has a responsibility to use its skill and passion to create a cleaner, healthier and safer world, which is why he is proud that the company's sustainability efforts have been recognised.

The Global 100 Index uses 12 indicators, such as revenue per unit of energy consumed and innovation capacity, to determine how companies rank in terms of sustainability.

Jeffrey Whitford, Sigma-Aldrich global citizenship manager, said that it is a huge honour to receive the recognition for the second year in a row and it gives employees great pride to know they are creating measurable change.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801772797-ADNFCR
