Sigma-Aldrich reports successful fourth quarter in 2010
Sigma-Aldrich has recorded a new quarterly record sales total during the final three months of 2010.
The science firm's reported sales total for the fourth quarter came to $582 million (363.9 million pounds), up by two percent on the corresponding period of 2009.
Positive organic growth was noted in its research and SAFC business units, while its international operations saw an improved performance over the last three months.
In addition, the company has progressed with plans to create a new European headquarters in Switzerland in order to better serve the EMEA region.
President and chief executive officer (CEO) Rakesh Sachdev also noted the role played in the firm's performance by former CEO Jai Nagarkatti, who passed away in November 2010.
"He was a greatly respected leader to the entire Sigma-Aldrich organisation and the scientific and business community," he said.
Earlier this month, the company agreed a deal to purchase Resource Technology Corporation, a specialist in analytical standards and certified reference materials.
