Sirona’s dental turbines demonstrate sound benefits in acoustics study
Sirona has highlighted the findings of an independent acoustics study that demonstrates the success of its efforts to reduce the levels of noise produced by its dental turbines.
Conducted by Advacoustics, an engineering office in Berlin, the study assessed the noise levels from turbines of various manufacturers, including Sirona's new T1 Control S and T2 Boost S products.
Most turbines were shown to be significantly louder in the test when they were operated with spray, sometimes reaching levels of up to ten A-weighted decibels. The smallest differences in acoustic pressure were found with Sirona's turbines, which were only 0.2 A-weighted decibels louder when using spray than without.
This will help to protect dentists from any risk of noise-induced hearing loss, which is one of the most common occupational diseases.
Frank Peichl, instruments product manager at Sirona, said: "After equipping our turbines with low-vibration ball bearings and rotors, we reduced the noise level even more with the innovative four-nozzle spray for the benefit of dentists and patients."
