Smith and Nephew acquires software firm LifeModeler
Smith and Nephew has announced the acquisition of biomechanical software company and long-term partner LifeModeler.
The California-based company is a leading provider of biomechanical human body simulation tools and services that facilitate the development and evaluation of new medical technologies.
It has been working with Smith and Nephew for more than ten years, with LifeModeler's LifeMOD simulation system having been used in the creation of a number of key products.
The takeover comes at a time when Smith and Nephew is increasing its investment in research and development, with terms of the transaction remaining undisclosed.
Gaurav Agarwal, senior vice-president of Smith and Nephew's advanced surgical devices division, said: "This addition will help us shorten the time it takes to safely deliver current product enhancements to the operating room, as well as helping us to develop the next generation of orthopaedic implant innovations."
Earlier this year, the firm's UK division acquired the Aderma range of dermal pads from its original creator Focus Product Development.
