Smith and Nephew acquires Tenet Medical Engineering

27th June 2011

Smith and Nephew has announced the acquisition of Tenet Medical Engineering for an undisclosed fee.

The Alberta-based organisation is a leading provider of surgical patient positioning equipment and is set to be incorporated into Smith and Nephew's endoscopy division, with which it had a distribution arrangement prior to this takeover.

Tenet's expertise extends to areas such as intuitive positioning controls, global compatibility and fully integrated systems for arthroscopic surgery, with Smith and Nephew having identified Tenet's portfolio as being complementary to its business.

Mike Frazzette, president of Smith and Nephew Endoscopy, stated that the brand is well-known to surgeons and medical facilities worldwide.

"Tenet also brings considerable material expertise and a global awareness of customer needs, all of which complements Smith and Nephew's own deep understanding of arthroscopic procedures and techniques," he said.

Earlier this month, the company announced the launch of Allevyn Gentle Border Sacrum, a wound dressing product for use near the sacrum or at the base of the spine.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800600472-ADNFCR
