Smith and Nephew highlights strong performance in latest trading update
Smith and Nephew has announced improved underlying revenue growth, trading profit margin and earnings during the second quarter of 2015.
The quarter saw the company achieve a revenue total of $1.17 billion (749.52 million pounds), up five percent on an underlying basis and two percent in reported terms. A nine percent currency headwind was partially offset by a six percent gain from acquisitions.
Its advanced wound care division's improvement continued, with revenue up 12 percent, while emerging markets consistently produced double-digit growth and global knee implant business delivered revenue growth of seven percent.
For the first half, meanwhile, revenue rose by two percent on a reported basis to $2.27 billion, allowing Smith and Nephew to maintain its full-year guidance.
Olivier Bohuon, chief executive officer of Smith and Nephew, said: "Where we have invested to improve existing businesses we are beginning to reap the benefits. I am confident we are firmly on track with our strategy to invigorate the growth profile of Smith and Nephew."
