Smith and Nephew holds Wound Care Academy course in Saudi Arabia

Smith and Nephew has announced the successful completion of its first Wound Care Academy programme in Saudi Arabia.

The week-long intensive course is a theoretical and practical-based learning initiative designed to enhance the wound care knowledge of local healthcare professionals. Led by experts from the University of Hertfordshire, the course was attended by 28 participants.

Madeleine Flanagan, a wound care specialist with 25 years of industry experience, led the programme, with specialists hosting sessions on topics including diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcer prevention and treatment, negative pressure wound therapy and surgical site infection.

Since its launch in 1999 in South Africa, more than 1,000 participants across the Middle East and Africa have made use of the training opportunities provided through the programme.

Basel AbouJalala, head of Smith and Nephew's technical scientific office in Saudi Arabia, said: "Providing this high-level educational initiative to Saudi Arabian healthcare professionals for the first time demonstrates Smith and Nephew's commitment to enhancing wound care knowledge in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia."

Earlier this month, the company announced that its chief financial officer Julie Brown is set to leave the company early next year, with the search for a successor having commenced.
