Smith and Nephew launches new hip replacement device
Smith & Nephew has announced the global launch of a new advanced system used in total hip replacement procedures.
The R3 Acetabular System is engineered for multiple bearing options and features Stiktite porous coating that is designed to enhance fixation and bony in-growth.
Additionally, the system comes with a multi-bearing cup which provides greater flexibility for surgeons as well as a foundation to reduce wear and subsequent need for revision surgery.
Joseph DeVivo, president of Smith & Nephew orthopaedic reconstruction, said that the R3 system would give surgeons more options to treat the patient as well as giving a “high performance option” for patients.
“The R3 system represents how we listen to our customers and provides them with high tech answers to help their patients regain their lives.”
Stephen McMahon, of the Malabar Orthopaedic Clinic in Australia, suggested that the R3 Acetabular system would give him the flexibility to tailor the implant to each of his patients.
This week also saw Smith & Nephew announce the US launch of its Caption Disposable Platelet Concentration which simplifies and accelerates the collection of platelet rich concentrate and eliminates cross-contamination risks.
