Smith and Nephew releases sustainability report for 2010
Smith and Nephew has released its annual sustainability report, in which it has documented its various corporate responsibility accomplishments for 2010.
The medical technology firm noted that it has been able to continue delivering a strong performance in terms of governance, economic, social and environmental considerations in the last year, meeting the diverse expectations of shareholders.
A key element of this has been the appointment of Don Young as its senior vice-president for corporate sustainability midway through last year, who is helping to make sustainability an integrated part of its business practices.
Olivier Bohuon, chief executive of Smith and Nephew, said the company's multinational presence means it needs to be accountable not only to investors, but also to the global community.
"I have learned over the course of my career that sustainable business practices and good corporate citizenship are hallmarks of a successful company," he explained.
Earlier this month, the firm published its second quarter financial results for 2011, during which it saw year-on-year growth of five percent, while outperforming the market.
