Smith Medical launches acapella duet

18th December 2006

Smith Medical has announced the launch of the acapella duet vibratory positive expiratory pressure (PEP) therapy system. The product offers patients vibratory PEP and aerosolised medication combined in one treatment session.

The product includes a streamlined body containing a port designed to accommodate a range of small volume nebuilisers for the administration of small-volume nebuiliser treatments.

It replaces the acapella choice and like that product can be disassembled for cleaning purposes, with autoclaving, boiling or dishwasher cleaning appropriate for disinfection.

“Lightweight, compact and easily transportable, acapella duet can be used by patients in any position – reclining, standing or sitting – and is designed to accommodate a wide range of clinical needs,” the company states.

It added that the product can be used as a monotherapy without a nebuiliser.

The product was officially presented last week at the American Association for Respiratory Care’s International Respiratory Congress in Las Vegas.

Fred Richards, director of research and business development at the company, reported that the company had responded to customer requests for PEP therapy products that incorporate nebuiliser treatments.

He added that the product was joining an “already excellent” group of bronchial hygiene products marketed by the company under the acapella name.
