Solvay Pharmaceuticals signs partnership with Novasep

Solvay Pharmaceuticals has signed a five-year strategic agreement for manufacturing with Novasep. Under the terms of the agreement Novasep will produce two pharmaceutical ingredients for Solvay Pharmaceuticals.

These ingredients are Pinaverium bromide and Betahistine, which are manufactured at Novasep’s Mourenx site. This decision follows the companies’ earlier agreement to make Novasep Solvay’s preferred partners for the development and supply of pharmaceutical ingredients and other chemical entities.

Novasep uses chiral technologies, hazardous chemistry and other specialised technologies to produce molecules for pharmaceutical products. It also combines these technologies with preparative chromatography for purification.

“As part of this alliance in the short and mid-term, Novasep and Solvay Pharmaceuticals will start discussion on the possibility to extend this agreement,” Novasep reports.

The company added that the decision to outsource this business was in accord with Solvay Pharmaceuticals policy of using competitively priced and high quality alternatives to manufacturing in-house.

In October, Solvay announced the renewal of its strategic partnership with Quintiles for a further five years. The companies had formerly signed an agreement in 2001.

Solvay reported that in the past five years it had completed three phase III programmes, in addition to moving two pharmaceutical compounds from phase II to phase III ahead of schedule.
