SonoSite begins shipping Edge ultrasound system internationally

SonoSite has announced the commencement of shipping for its next-generation medical device, the Edge ultrasound system.

The product, which has received CE Mark approval in the EU, is being made available for international sale following its successful US introduction last month.

Offering benefits such as high-level image quality, a larger screen size and an intuitive new user interface, it has been positively received by physicians attending medical meetings and congresses in Europe and Australia over the autumn.

Dr Amit Pawa, anaesthesiologist consultant at the Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London, highlighted qualities such as its "futuristic" look, simplicity of use and rapid performance.

He added: "Physicians will also benefit from the backlit screen and wipeable keypad. Overall, the image quality is superior and I can't wait to use it in clinical practice."

This comes after it was announced last week that SonoSite has accepted a takeover bid from FujiFilm in order to bolster its future growth prospects.
