SonoSite ultrasound systems benefit NHS trust

SonoSite has won praise from the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust for the benefits its handheld ultrasound systems have delivered for its hospitals.

The trust is utilising the medical technology firm's M­Turbo and MicroMaxx hand-carried ultrasound systems for vascular diagnostics and treatment guidance at the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and Good Hope Hospital.

Uses include scanning aortas, monitoring of abdominal aortic aneurysms and assessment of veins prior to treatment, as well as for ultrasound-guided surgical treatments such as radiofrequency ablation of varicose veins.

Corinna Gomm, clinical vascular scientist at the trust, highlighted the devices' ease of use, high accuracy and sensitivity, as well as their flexibility for various applications.

"Minimal training was required as the systems are quite intuitive and SonoSite's technical advisors are very accessible. That is the beauty of SonoSite," she added.

This comes after the company – which is soon to be acquired by Fujifilm – launched a cutting-edge new ultrasound system called Edge last month.
