St Jude Medical receives backing for Angio-Seal safety

14th December 2010

St Jude Medical's vascular closure device Angio-Seal has won a recommendation for its safety performance in a recent European investigation.

The Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) has conducted a vascular closure device registry which assessed the performance of a number of leading products in interventional radiology (IR) procedures.

It was found that St Jude Medical's device was successfully deployed in 97 percent of procedures, following an analysis of more than 1,100 patients enrolled in centres located in ten European nations.

According to CIRSE, this shows that Angio-Seal is a safe and effective treatment option in surgery of this kind, with a low risk of serious complications.

Frank Callaghan, president of St Jude Medical's cardiovascular division, said: ""We anticipate that these results will encourage the use of our Angio-Seal vascular closure device platform in IR procedures."

Earlier this month, the company published data from a study which demonstrated the effectiveness of its neurostimulation technology in addressing chronic lower back pain symptoms.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800290425-ADNFCR
