St Jude Medical reports positive trial data for CardioMEMS HF System

St Jude Medical has reported the findings of a new clinical trial data analysis that demonstrates the further benefits of its CardioMEMS HF System.

Data from the Champion trial showing that heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction on optimal doses of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) experienced improved survival rates when managed by pulmonary artery pressure monitoring via the CardioMEMS HF System.

Use of the device was associated with a 57 percent reduction in mortality and a 43 percent reduction in heart failure hospitalisations compared with patients on GDMT managed by the standard of care.

The CardioMEMS HF System uses a miniaturised, wireless monitoring sensor implanted in the pulmonary artery during a minimally invasive procedure to directly measure pulmonary artery pressure.

The company acquired CardioMEMS, the developer of the CardioMEMS HF system, during 2014.
