St Jude Medical’s FlexAbility Ablation Catheter launches in Europe

St Jude Medical has announced that its new FlexAbility Ablation Catheter has been launched in Europe.

Designed for use by electrophysiologists in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, the novel ablation technology has received CE Mark approval and has already been utilised in clinical practice for the first time by doctors in Portugal and France.

The device was developed to incorporate feedback from physician thought leaders around the world. It combines a unique, irrigated flexible catheter tip with a state-of-the-art handle and catheter design.

St Jude Medical's aim was to reduce complications associated with ablation procedures through the device's ability to bend and conform to cardiac anatomy, minimising the pressure distributed to the heart wall while simultaneously increasing the stability of therapy delivery.

Dr Eric Fain, group president at St Jude Medical, said: "The goal of the FlexAbility catheter was to bring the most advanced irrigated ablation solution to the electrophysiology market."

Earlier this month, the company announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2014, during which it achieved a three percent year-on-year improvement in terms of net sales.
