St Jude Medical’s PressureWire Aeris to support Philips systems

St Jude Medical has announced that its fractional flow reserve (FFR) technology offering PressureWire Aeris is to be made compatible with the Philips Xper Flex Cardio physiomonitoring system.

The device, which is designed for use in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery blockages, will be integrated with the Philips system in order to give hospitals greater access to the technology.

Clinical trials conducted by St Jude have shown that FFR-guided treatment using PressureWire Aeris can offer improved outcomes and a lower cost of care compared to standard angiography alone.

The innovation is also compatible with common recording systems such as GE Mac-Lab Hemodynamic Recording System, Mennen Horizon XVu and Siemens Axiom Sensis XP.

Frank Callaghan, president of the St Jude Medical cardiovascular division, said: "This agreement with Philips allows physicians to more easily gain access to the only wireless FFR measurement system available."

Last month, the company announced its third quarter financial results, reporting a year-on-year sales increase of 12 percent.
