Synergy Healthcare argues UK budget cuts ‘do not need to compromise safety’
Synergy has insisted cuts to the UK's healthcare budget should not have a negative impact on the standard of service offered to patients.
In a statement made to mark local MP Austin Mitchell's visit to the company's Sterile Service facility in Grimsby, managing director of hospital sterilisation services Kevin Holder said: "We feel very strongly that the cost savings demanded in the healthcare sector do not need to impact the standards of sterile services or compromise patient safety."
The Synergy site in question sterilises surgical instruments for use in operating theatres and wards in facilities of the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Mr Mitchell, who represents Great Grimsby, said he had been "impressed" during his behind-the-scenes tour by the company's ability to control costs through economies of scale and effective logistics.
He also praised Synergy's contribution to the local area, in terms of both job creation and improving the standard of care at the trust.
