Systagenix completes O2 Insights acquisition

Systagenix has completed the acquisition of the assets of O2 Insights, a US-based developer of technology with wound care applications.

Co-founded by Robert Rushenberg and Dr Samit Gupta, O2 Insights specialises in rapid, reliable and cost-effective point-of-care diagnostics for the measurement of transcutaneous tissue oxygenation, a key marker for certain chronic wound types.

Transcutaneous oxygen perfusion measurement is used in clinical practice to assess peripheral vascular oxygenation and to help determine whether or not revascularisation procedures and hyperbaric oxygen therapy would be beneficial.

This takeover adds a third marker to Systagenix's wound diagnostics pipeline.

Ernest Waaser, Systagenix chief executive officer, said: "Our goal is to provide physicians better diagnostic tools to help them guide targeted treatment earlier and increase chances of healing more rapidly and cost-effectively."

Last month, the company announced that more than 1,000 clinicians have been trained to use its signature product, the WoundChek Protease Status testing system, since its launch earlier this year.
