Takeda and Denali Therapeutics ally on neurodegenerative disease research

12th January 2018

Takeda has announced a new partnership with Denali Therapeutics that will see the companies work together on the creation of neurodegenerative disease therapies.

The strategic option and collaboration agreement will focus on the creation of up to three specified therapeutic product candidates for neurodegenerative diseases, with each programme directed at a genetically validated target.

Disease targets include Alzheimer's disease and other indications, with Denali's Antibody Transport Vehicle technology to be utilised to enhance blood-brain barrier penetration.

Under the terms of the agreement, Denali will be responsible for all development activities and costs prior to regulatory filing for each of the three programmes, while Takeda has the option to co-develop and co-commercialise the drugs.

Takeda and Denali would jointly commercialise any products sold in the US and China, with Takeda obtaining exclusive commercialisation rights in all other markets.

Emiliangelo Ratti, head of the neuroscience therapy area at Takeda, said: "This partnership further exemplifies Takeda's continued commitment to developing genetically validated therapies for neurodegenerative diseases through an enhanced portfolio comprised of new modalities."
