Takeda and Queen Mary University of London announce gastroenterology alliance

Takeda has announced a new collaboration with Queen Mary University of London, which aims to find new ways of treating gastrointestinal diseases and disorders.

Leveraging the scientific capabilities of both partners, the alliance will define new insights and develop novel therapies in gastroenterology, a field that is currently poorly understood, with an inadequate range of treatments available.

The focus of the research alliance will be gastrointestinal sensory and motor mechanisms underlying functional bowel disorders, and gastrointestinal motility disorders. Takeda's gastrointestinal drug discovery unit will collaborate with the university's neurogastroenterology group and its school of medicine and dentistry.

Dr Gareth Hicks, head of Takeda's gastrointestinal drug discovery unit, said: "We are excited to work with researchers at Queen Mary University of London, who have a proven track record for collaborative delivery of deep scientific insight into gastrointestinal disease mechanisms."

This comes after the company announced a new partnership with Prasco last month to market an authorised generic version of Colcrys in the US.
