Takeda announces new strategic plans for growth

20th January 2012

Takeda has announced a series of strategic measures and objectives that it will be carrying out as it seeks to strengthen its foundations for long-term growth.

The measures will be focused on efficiency, improved process integration and streamlining, with particular regard given to the incorporation of its new subsidiary Nycomed, which was purchased last year.

Nycomed's former operational structures will be subsumed into Takeda's global leadership processes, while the acquired company's strong sales platforms in Europe and developing nations will be used to support Takeda's worldwide expansion.

Other plans include a shift towards a more diverse portfolio focused on newer therapies, as well as consolidation of a number of its facilities and research and development sites.

Yasuchika Hasegawa, president and chief executive officer of Takeda, said: "While our combined operations in more than 70 countries are more complementary than overlapping, there are a number of areas where we will need to make changes to ensure efficient and flexible operations."

Last month, the company expanded its oncology capabilities further through the acquisition of Intellikine, a US-based small molecule drugs specialist.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801270153-ADNFCR
