Takeda announces TAK-700 prostate cancer trial

Takeda and its wholly-owned subsidiary Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company has revealed that a clinical trial into its drug TAK-700 is set to enter the next stage.

It is being researched as a possible therapy for patients with late-stage prostate cancer and the primary endpoints of the study include safety and tolerance of the drug.

The treatment is a non-steroidal androgen synthesis inhibitor that in preclinical studies has been shown to selectively bind to and inhibit enzymes 17, 20 lyase[1] in both the testes and adrenal glands, suppressing the production of androgen.

Nancy Simonian, chief medical officer of Millennium, said: “We are pleased to see the progress of this compound, and we are striving to develop drugs that will fulfill the unmet medical need for prostate cancer.”

Last month, Takeda received approval to commence with a trial surrounding alogliptin – a selective dipeptidyl peptidase IV inhibitor currently under investigation for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
