Takeda offers support to global health initiative

Takeda is launching a new endowment programme in order to support a global initiative designed to combat three of the most infectious diseases worldwide.

The pharmaceutical company has established the Takeda Initiative in order to offer aid to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and assist in its efforts to improve healthcare in developing nations.

Under the terms of this agreement, Takeda will contribute 100 million yen (730,000 pounds) annually for the next ten years to support projects the Global Fund is undertaking in Tanzania, Senegal and Nigeria.

Yasuchika Hasegawa, president and chief executive officer of Takeda, stated that this initiative is representative of the company’s broader business perspective.

He said: “It is our sincere hope that this programme will help enhance the foundation of healthcare in developing countries, thereby benefiting people who suffer from these three major scourges.”

Last month, the company commenced phase III trials of a combination pramlintide/metreleptin therapy designed for sufferers of obesity.
