Takeda pledges support for British amputee football team

Takeda’s UK division has made a donation to the Great Britain Amputee Football team to assist in their efforts to travel to the upcoming World Cup.

The pharmaceutical company has contributed 5,000 pounds to the England Amputee Football Association towards the 20,000 pound sum it needs to attend the 2010 World Amputee Football Federation World Cup in Argentina.

It has also provided assistance which will allow the team to compete against France for the Takeda Cup, an event which will be held in Manchester in June 2010.

Mark Reale, Takeda’s corporate communications manager, stated that the company will continue to support the team, describing their efforts as “truly inspirational”.

He added: “[The club’s] activities prove that losing a limb, whether though cancer, on active service or some other misfortune, needn’t prevent you from leading a full and active life.”

Last month, Takeda established a charitable endowment programme called the Takeda Initiative, which will offer financial support to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
