Takeda to create new dengue vaccine manufacturing plant in Germany

30th November 2016

Takeda has announced plans for the creation of a new manufacturing plant in Singen, Germany to support the production of the company's dengue vaccine candidate.

The company will spend more than 100 million euros (85.3 million pounds) to develop the new plant, construction of which will commence immediately. It is expected that the facility will be ready for production by 2019.

Work on the new plant is starting following the recent initiation of TIDES, a phase III clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of a two-dose schedule of the dengue vaccine candidate. Approximately 20,000 healthy children between the ages of four and 16 years living in dengue-endemic countries in Latin America and Asia will be enrolled.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of the vaccine candidate in protecting subjects against symptomatic dengue fever caused by any of the four dengue virus serotypes, regardless of age and previous viral exposure status.

Dr Thomas Wozniewski, global manufacturing and supply officer at Takeda, said: "The new plant will provide millions of people with access to a medicine that addresses a huge unmet medical need. It underlines our commitment to improve the lives of people worldwide."
