Teva announces UK launch of generic levetiracetam
Teva has introduced its new generic levetiracetam film-coated tablets to the UK in four different strengths.
The off-label treatment is based on the branded product Keppra from UCB and is indicated as a monotherapy for adult epilepsy patients suffering partial onset seizures, with or without secondary generalisation in patients.
It can also be used as an adjunctive treatment for partial onset seizure sufferers of all ages, as well as among certain juvenile myoclonic epilepsy and idiopathic generalised epilepsy patients.
Levetiracetam can be purchased in packs of 60 and is available in strengths of 250, 500, 750 and 1,000 mg.
Kim Innes, commercial director at Teva UK, said: "We are delighted to be bringing a generic version of this product to the UK market and at the same time further broaden our portfolio, which is the widest of any UK generics supplier."
This comes after the company added five new products to its range in July 2011, including generic versions of therapies created by the likes of Sanofi, GlaxoSmithKline and Daiichi Sankyo.
