Teva UK launches generic hypertension drug

Teva UK has released a generic version of losartan, a treatment for hypertension originally developed by Merck Sharpe and Dohme.

The black triangle drug, which is being offered by Teva UK immediately following the expiry of its original patent, is a losartan potassium film-coated tablet treatment which is being offered in 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg strengths.

It was previously marketed by Merck Sharpe and Dohme under the brand name Cozaar and has now become a part of Teva UK’s award-winning 360 livery.

Kim Innes, commercial director at Teva UK, said: “We are pleased to add this product straight into our portfolio on the first day it is off patent.”

Earlier this year, the pharmaceutical company welcomed new Department of Health proposals that would allow dispensers to substitute branded medicines for cheaper generic alternatives.

Teva UK stated this will help the government to save money while continuing to provide high-quality healthcare to patients.
