The West Midlands Academic Health Science Network unveils its new lab.

3rd December 2019

A new Digital Health and Skills Lab, located at iCentrum, Birmingham, has been unveiled by The West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN), with the aim to further improving the quality of wellbeing and health in the West Midlands and boosting investment by bringing different healthcare stakeholders together to develop solutions. The lab will accommodate an area for health automation businesses to demonstrate their digital innovations to interested parties including leading NHS managers and clinicians, while also offering an educational area for people to adapt their technological skills and learn about the impact that digital health has on the region.

The Lab intends to operate in 2 separate stages, firstly concentrating on the primary care sector and then secondary care and social care.

Head of Digital Health at WMAHSN, Neil Mortimer, stated: “The Digital Health & Skills Lab provides a really exciting opportunity for businesses, NHS professionals and the public to come together and engage with digital health in an interactive and informative environment. We hope that businesses can use this space to test and showcase their innovation for the benefit of the whole of the West Midlands. This is another great step towards a better future for healthcare, and we’re excited for the Lab to continue to grow and expand into the secondary and social care sectors.”
