Thermo Fisher announces a six million-dollar extension to its viral vector site.

Thermo Fisher Scientific have announced a six million-dollar extension to its viral vector and gene therapy services site in Alachua, Florida. The investment will be significantly beneficial to the company as their site’s laboratory and warehousing capacity will increase twofold for the quality control testing of gene therapy products and the development of its upstream processing.

This year, Thermo Fisher are investing two-hundred and seventy million dollars into the expansion of its domestic and international talent, capacity and capabilities, facilitating the production and delivery of high-quality medicines to patients worldwide.

Vice President and General Manager of Viral Vector Services at Thermo Fisher, Chris Murphy, stated: “The team at our Alachua site has more than twelve-years of expertise developing processes, analytics and manufacturing GMP materials to help our customers with clinical development of advanced medicines for rare and complex diseases. This investment in Alachua signifies our continued commitment to serve our gene therapy customers and their patients in need.”
