Thermo Fisher Launches GENESYS G5 UV-Vis Suite

Thermo Fisher Scientific has launched the GENESYS G5 series of Visible and UV-Visible spectrophotometers, combining refined UV-Vis performance with an expandable application-specific software ecosystem. Announced on 15 July 2026, the release includes three variants (GENESYS G5 Vis, GENESYS G5 UV-Vis and GENESYS G5 UV-Vis Pro) and targets laboratories across academic, environmental, food and beverage, and life sciences settings looking to standardise workflows without expanding their instrument estates.

The commercial differentiator sits in the software ecosystem, with optional application packages covering water analysis, food and beverage testing, life sciences workflows and colour measurements. Each package delivers guided workflows and preconfigured methods aimed at reducing setup time and improving consistency across users, particularly relevant for laboratories running multiple analyte types on a single instrument. The platform supports accessory expansion including cell changers, Peltier temperature control, sipper systems and fibre optic probes, allowing workflow automation and application-specific customisation to evolve with laboratory requirements without requiring hardware replacement.

Data management sits at the core of the release, with USB, network, cloud, LIMS and optional PC software integration supporting efficient capture, storage, sharing and reporting across laboratory environments. Paired with Thermo Scientific SciVault 2 software, the GENESYS G5 delivers user access controls, audit trails and electronic signatures aligned with 21 CFR Part 11 data integrity requirements.
