Thermo Fisher Scientific appoints new advisor

Thermo Fisher Scientific has added Dr David Sabatini, a member of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, to its scientific advisory board.

Dr Sabatini has several affiliations with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is also an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, allowing him to provide informed insight into life science research issues.

He is the latest external addition to the advisory board, with other non-company-affiliated members including the likes of Dr Tyler Jacks, Ronald Davis, Dr David Hillyard and Dr William Hahn.

The board was formed in 2010 and helps the company to encourage a two-way exchange of technological information between the company and representatives from the life science industry.

Marc Casper, president and chief executive officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "His extensive work in understanding how cells function and metabolise plays a key role in the development of new treatments for disease."

This comes after the firm appointed Dr C Martin Harris to its board of directors earlier this month, a role he will assume on March 30th 2012.
