Thermo Fisher Scientific Axes Jobs Amid Plasmid Manufacturing Facility Downsize

10th April 2024

Due to a decrease in demand, Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced that the plasmid DNA production facility located in California will be reduced, axing jobs to accommodate the downsize.

Towards the end of 2020, Thermo Fisher outlined plans for the facility to capitalize on a growing global market. The site opened in July 2021 and intended to enhance the production of plasmid DNA for cell and gene therapies and mRNA vaccines, with a focus on large-scale manufacturing.

Staff members impacted by the cut will be provided with assistance in transitioning to new job opportunities.

A spokesperson on behalf of Thermo Fisher Scientific added, “There are times when we must adjust staffing levels to remain in line with current volume demands.”
