Thermo Fisher Scientific completes Lomb Scientific takeover
Thermo Fisher Scientific has completed its takeover of laboratory chemicals and instruments supplier Lomb Scientific.
The Australia and New Zealand-based organisation is to be integrated into the analytical technologies and laboratory products and services divisions of Thermo Fisher Scientific following the completion of the deal.
An agreement to purchase the firm was initially agreed between the two companies in November 2010 and will allow Thermo Fisher Scientific to expand the reach of its international business.
Marc Casper, the company's president and chief executive officer, said the deal will "expand our customer base [and] increase our depth of capabilities in health sciences, such as pathology".
Earlier this month, Thermo Fisher Scientific announced it will also be acquiring the life sciences firm Dionex in the first quarter of 2011.
This move will allow both companies to expand into new global territories, as well as creating a new industry leader in the field of chromatography.
