Thermo Fisher Scientific launches Exactive GC Orbitrap GC-MS system

19th July 2016

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the launch of its latest advanced gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) system.

The Thermo Scientific Exactive GC Orbitrap GC-MS system offers sensitive routine-grade performance for both targeted and non-targeted analysis, along with powerful quantitation, for food safety, environmental, industrial, forensics and anti-doping applications.

It combines the quantitative capabilities of a GC triple quadrupole mass spectrometer with the advantages of Orbitrap high-resolution accurate mass technology, thereby helping laboratories to streamline their workflows.

The device can be used in conjunction with Thermo Scientific's TraceFinder software and mass spectral libraries, while the accompanying Thermo Scientific Orbitrap GC-MS Contaminants Library features more than 700 compounds for food and environmental analysis.

Fausto Pigozzo, director of marketing for Thermo Fisher Scientific's gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry business, said: "Users can now acquire high-resolution scan data, mine the data, perform retrospective analysis and look for compounds that would otherwise not be detected with a traditional targeted analysis."

This comes after the firm launched its new Oncomine Lung Cell-Free DNA Assay earlier this month to aid the diagnosis of lung cancer.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801822041-ADNFCR
