Thermo Fisher Scientific launches new headspace-grade solvents
Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the launch of new headspace-grade solvents to help accurately detect volatile organic compounds in manufactured products.
The Fisher Chemical GC solvents are designed to help identify residual solvents to improve safety in the creation of pharmaceuticals, food packaging, personal care products, paint and other samples.
They can accurately detect the amount of residual solvent present and have been performance-tested to exceed the purity standards required by the International Conference of Harmonization.
The technique requires extraction of residual solvents from the sample using a high-purity solvent, ensuring freedom from contaminants that could interfere with gas chromatography analysis by co-eluting with the peaks of interest.
Stephen Roemer, senior manager of product development at Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "The new Fisher Chemical CG headspace-grade solvents allow researchers to improve detection of impurities, are tested to ensure low organic contamination, amplify productivity and ensure detection of Classes 1 to 3 or residual solvents."
The firm also announced this week that its BRAHMS procalcitonin biomarker assay for sepsis risk assessment has been approved in the US.
