Thermo Fisher Scientific offers FAIMS solution for safety in drug development
Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Asymmetric Waveform Ion Mobility Spectrometry technology (FAIMS) is to be utilised by researchers in Germany’s A&M labs.
Researchers will use the technology to remove interferences from drug analysis ensuring human safety in drug development in line with the USA’s Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) guidelines.
The LC-MS methods currently used can fail due to unexpected analyte interferences which can lead to delays or data misinterpretations.
The FAIMS interface provides additional ion filtering when used in conjunction with the H-ESI and APCI ion probes.
This results in LC-MS/MS chromatograms with a reduced chemical background and endogenous interferences.
Dr Axel Roemer, research leader at A&M, said: "We were very impressed with how the Thermo Scientific FAIMS system allows us to remove interferences with our drug analysis method."

Thermo Fisher Scientific has also released the new TEOM Series 1405 for ambient particle monitoring.
The new model allows users to achieve multiple PM measurements in a single "cost effective" instrument.
