Thermo Fisher Scientific ships 500th spectrometer

Thermo Fisher Scientific recently shipped its 500th iCAP 6000 ICP emission spectrometer, the company states.

The benchmark figure was reached with the sale of the unit to Boeing for use in the monitoring of chemical tanks, which form an integral part of the production process for aluminium aircraft wings.

Boeing is now to analyse the levels of copper and iron in the tanks as a means of determining the quality of the aluminium which constitutes the finished wing, according to Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Product group director of elemental analysis Paul Gillyon comments: "We are extremely proud to have Boeing as our 500th customer and I am sure that the iCAP 6000 will provide excellent service in their laboratory for many years."

Oxford Instruments recently launched a hand-held x-ray fluorescence analyser, the X MET3000TXV+, for detecting levels of silicon and magnesium in aluminium panels and aluminium in the titanium alloys used in aircraft construction.
