Thermo Fisher sells anatomical pathology business.
PHC Holdings is engaged in the development, manufacturing, marketing and servicing of medical equipment and solutions. It has now agreed a price of approximately $1.14bn to purchase Thermo Fisher Scientific’s anatomical pathology business which has about 1,200 employees, operates in China, Europe and the US, supplies microscope slides, instruments and consumables, and has an approximate annual revenue of $350m. If approved, the acquisition will complete later in 2019 and will expand PHC’s current portfolio of diabetes care, diagnostics, life sciences and healthcare IT.
Chief executive officer of PHC Holdings, Hidehito Kotani, said: “We are pleased to have signed the agreement with Thermo Fisher Scientific. Their anatomical pathology business has shown steady growth with their strong customer base in global hospital markets, especially in the United States. This is a solid business with good growth potential and we believe it will create value for our stakeholders as part of our growing diagnostics and healthcare portfolio.”
