Thermo Fisher’s twin screw granulator offers ‘competitive benefits’

9th November 2007

Thermo Fisher has unveiled its first twin screw granulator specifically designed for pharmaceutical applications.

Launched at a pharmaceutical scientists’ meeting in California, the Pharma Twin Screw Granulator (TSG) aims to eliminate batch variation and decrease ingredient and equipment costs through a continuous mixing process, enabling operators to use smaller, more precise amounts of expensive ingredients.

Alan Swanborough, pharmaceutical applications leader for Thermo Fisher Scientific, observed that as more international players are entering the pharmaceutical market, manufacturers are increasingly recognising the benefits of continuous granulation.

"As processes are improved and new drugs are brought to market, devices like our Pharma TSG will become the industry standard worldwide," he predicted.

"Established pharmaceutical companies can also realise the competitive benefits of these enhanced technologies," he continued.

Eliminating the need for large, single-batch equipment and offering operators a more flexible and accurate method of pharmaceutical production, Thermo Scientific’s new granulator enables facilities to upgrade to continuous granulation processes.

Thermo Scientific recently introduced its Machery-Nagel NucleoSpin Plasma XS kit, for use in research and drug discovery applications for cancer, to the UK market. ADNFCR-1050-ID-18349202-ADNFCR
