Tital and Medtronic Team Up Twice for Development and Licencing Deal

13th September 2022

Titan Medical and Medtronic have an engaged in an arrangement whereby they expand upon a prior deal from back in 2020 for the development and licencing of Medtronic products. This was finalised by Titan and received a payment of $8.3 million.

In accordance with the agreement, Medtronic will assess how well Titan’s tools and cameras function during gynaecological surgeries, the plan is for Titan to use these as the initial application for its surgical robot.

The collaboration will expand on Medtronic’s efforts to increase its market share in robotic surgery. Hugo, a soft tissue robotics system, was approved for upholding safety, health and environmental standards for urologic and gynecologic treatments 11 months ago.

Titan got an order at the value of $2.6 million for tools and cameras from Medtronic in the spring, and it has finally been fulfilled.

Titan is working on the Enos robot, this is a technology that performs operations through a single access point. It had initially intended to be submitted to the FDA for a clinical study at the beginning of2023, but a lack of essential components and the requirement to hire software developers has forced the timeline back several months.

The business still intends to begin clinical trials next year regardless of the setbacks, and if the FDA grants the device marketing authorisation, it anticipates entering the market in the United States in 2025.
